Mayor Andre Dickens

A person is wearing a professional navy blue suit with a tie and has a confident smile.

The 61st mayor of Atlanta is a true son of the South.

Mayor Andre Dickens is a proud product of the Atlanta Public School system and became a champion for his city long before he held public office.   He grew up in the Adamsville neighborhood on the historic Westside.  And he came of age playing baseball, going to church with his family, and just staying busy with all the activities offered to youth in Atlanta.

Before he graduated from Mays High School, the future Mayor would spend a fateful week on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.  He came away from that experience knowing he would one day be a Yellow Jacket.  He later graduated from Georgia Tech with a Chemical Engineering degree.  He went on to receive a Master of Public Administration degree in Economic Development from Georgia State University.

Since his swearing in on January 3, 2022, Mayor Dickens has worked to move Atlanta forward.   He has spent his time in office executing a progressive agenda that invests in Atlanta’s people and communities, with a goal of making this a city of opportunity for all.

Under the Mayor’s leadership, the City is in its strongest fiscal condition ever with its highest credit ratings.  This helped pave the way for the Mayor’s historic FY25 budget that was unanimously approved by Atlanta City Council in June 2024.   The approved budget includes a number of investments that support the Mayor’s focus on opportunity, safety, and Atlanta’s future.

  • A multi-million-dollar investment in human capital, ensuring that the City is able to compete with the private sector to recruit and retain the best talent.
  • A major investment in public safety that includes technology upgrades, equipment, and security measures.
  • A $17M investment in the Affordable Housing Trust that will provide safe and quality housing across the city.
  • A $30M investment in the city’s infrastructure, including new fire stations and addressing long-standing maintenance needs.
  • A significant investment that strengthens the city’s efforts to eradicate food deserts.
  • And continued investments in the city’s young people, following a hugely successful “Year of the Youth” initiative.
  • All of these investments move the city closer to realizing the Mayor’s vision for Atlanta.

One city with one bright future. A city of safe, healthy, connected neighborhoods with an expansive culture of equity, empowering upward mobility, and full participation for all residents, embracing youth development, and an innovative, dependable government moving Atlanta forward, together.

And when he isn’t handling the people’s business, the Mayor can often be found at his Adamsville home, spending time with friends and family, including his daughter Bailey when she’s home from college, while loudly cheering on every one of the city’s sports teams.
