Benjamin Preis, PhD

Benjamin Preis, PhD, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Nowak Metro Finance Lab and the director of the Task Force. As Director of the Task Force, he is responsible for all deliverables and day-to-day activities. In his role at the Nowak Metro Finance Lab, he leads the lab’s work on national, state, and local housing policy. Ben has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in academic journals, including Urban Studies, Urban Affairs Review, and the Annals of the American Association of Geographers. His work has been profiled in popular media outlets such as Vox, Governing Magazine, and NPR’s Marketplace. He has previously worked with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, the Cambridge Housing Authority, and the Center for Public Studies in Santiago, Chile. In a previous role, Ben worked in government relations for universities and research associations at Lewis-Burke Associates. He holds a master’s degree in City Planning and a PhD in Urban Science and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Peace and Justice Studies from Tufts University.
