Benjamin Preis, PhD

Benjamin Preis, PhD, is Principal at Urban Research Advisors and was the founding director of the National Housing Crisis Task Force. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor. While he led the Task Force, Ben served as the chief author and editor of its Federal Housing Policy Agenda and its State and Local Housing Action Plan. Ben has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in academic journals, including Urban Studies, Urban Affairs Review, and the Annals of the American Association of Geographers. His work has been profiled in popular media outlets such as Vox, Governing Magazine, and NPR’s Marketplace. He has previously worked with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, the Cambridge Housing Authority, the Center for Public Studies in Santiago, Chile, and Lewis-Burke Associates in Washington, DC. He holds a master’s degree in City Planning and a PhD in Urban Science and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Peace and Justice Studies from Tufts University.
